“Saving the Dark,” a documentary produced and directed by Sriram Murali, is a 56-minute film that, through interviews of experts, describes the impact and significant of light pollution on Astronomy, the night skies, human health, wildlife, and what we as citizens can do to mitigate it.
In America and Europe 80 percent of the population live were the night sky is only faintly visible. The night sky over Milwaukee and Waukesha counties is nearly erased by light pollution, second only to East Coast from New York City to Washington D.C., and other major metropolitan areas in the U.S.
The film asks: “What do we lose when we lose sight of the stars? Excessive and improper lighting robs us of our night skies, disrupts our sleep patterns and endangers nocturnal habitats.”
